Top 5 Google tools for web start ups

Google has always believed in offering free products and its features for free as long as their Ad business soars.

This strategy of providing free and valuable tools has proven to be very effective while garnering people’s love and web workers attention.

Obviously, I haven’t included Google’s very common and useful products like Gmail, Reader & Calendar as they are already widely used by the everybody leave aside startups.

So have a look on this compilation of top free products from Google:

1. Google Apps: Google apps allows you to manage Google Services like Gmail, Docs, Calendar, Sites etc. on your own domain. The basic edition of this service is free, and the premier version costs around $50

You can customize the look of your apps account by putting in your branded logo or any custom image.

2. Google Web Master Tools: These tools are great resource and a must have for any website owner/publisher. These tools help you figure out as to when was the last time ‘The Google Bot’ crawled your website and what kind of errors did it encounter: broken links, analyze robots.txt, query stats etc. This tool comes in very handy while trying to troubleshoot the cause for not featuring high on search results.

Its really really easy to set up on your website. Just google or youtube Google Webmaster Tool setup and you will have zillions of results tutoring you about the process

Check out Google Webmaster Tools

3. Google Website Optimizer: Another great & free tool from the Google stable. It allows the site owners to run A/B and multivariate tests.

Primarily this will help you test elements on your landing pages to see how well they are able to convert the visitors and if not then how can changes made to different aspect of the page help you convert better

In totality it’s an extremely powerful tool which is really easy to use and comes at no cost.

4. Google Analytics : Another free and powerful tool by Google to help you track your website visitors and their activities on the website.

It is a complete (almost bug free)analytics tool. It is by the far the most popular tool and has almost become an industry default when it comes to measuring web traffic.

It offers a great amount of customization and features like custom reporting, goals, conversion funnel conversion etc. By playing around a little with the Javascript codes offered by GA you can actually filter down your traffic to every link that is left out on the web.

The only thing that probably stops it from an ultimate solution is probably its real time reporting capabilities and its capabilities (or lack of it) to not to show the detailed path of specific visitor which can come in really handy while trying to optimize your website for conversions.

5. Google Ad words Keywords Tool: The most important tool out of the lost which essentially tells you how to drive traffic to your website. It helps you put the ‘trial & error’ approach to rest and gives you the data to target your customers better and intelligently.

A very basic keyword search provides you with plenty of information and allows the refining of the results.

It can be really helpful to anyone whether you are an advertiser or a publisher.

These are probably the most useful and essential tools for any web based startup. Please do pour in your comments if you would like to see any other Google product which I might have missed.
